Paper used for bedding has been around for a while and if you think about it, paper and cardboard are processed wood. There are several types of shredded newspaper and chopped cardboard.

Paper used for bedding has been around for a while and if you think about it, paper and cardboard are processed wood. There are several types of shredded newspaper and chopped cardboard.
You will see a barn where they own a shredder and people drop off their used cartons and newspaper. When spread onto a field, this material melts after a few days exposure. However for the first day or two the field will look like it is covered in snow.
I think that the more absorbent the paper is the more wet it becomes. While this may be good for eliminating urine it still creates a heat conducting barrier which will chill a horse in winter.
