Horse Metabolism And Hormones – Obesity And Weight Loss

Increased body fat, (aka “good do-ers or “easy keepers”) is one of my most in-depth topics here at THA. A lot of the blogs and basics of nutrition can be found in the Nutrition topic of the Horse Care section. In the videos and related material tabs are located the podcasts I have done relating to this subject. You can extrapolate to work on the opposite – the “Hard Keeper” who is chronically underweight.

I often joke with someone who wants to put more weight on theior horses. I just replyu with, “Go to your local scuba store and buy some weight belts then place them on your horse – immediate weight gain.” The point is for the owner to specify whether they want more body fat or body muscle. The process is very different. Unfortunately many think that by adding sugar (starch, grain) they will add muscle and by exercising they will add muscle. Neither is true unless you are adding the amino acids needed to build muscle. Just ask any body builder. Do you see them eating donuts while pumping iron?

As time moves on I am adding articles, videos and podcasts so eventually there will be something on every topic.  Please be patient but if you are impatient, please contact me to encourage me to work on a specific topic.  Go to the forum for “New Content Requests” and I’ll get right on it.  Thanks for visiting this topic page.  Doc T
